Our work in Youth’s mental health development
At YMCA LAC we believe that healthy youth build more just, equitable and sustainable communities.
We are aware that mental health is one of the main determinants in the quality of life of individuals and communities.
As YMCA LAC, we define Mental Health as a state of physical, mental, social, spiritual, and emotional balance, which allows the person to strengthen their self-esteem, managing to feel motivated and self-realized, being able to build satisfactory interpersonal relationships, improving their well-being and quality of life and that of their community.
Did you know?
We have an active and dynamic mental health network in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Regional Mental Health Network emerged in April 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic by identifying as a priority issue the improvement of the mental and emotional health of staff, volunteers and participants of local programs of the movements belonging to YMCA LAC.
The network is made up of members with different areas of specialty that complement the work, which focuses on the design and implementation of a regional mental health program for adolescents and young people, as well as the organization of various activities related to the subject with the purpose of raising the conversation on mental health within the region.
YMCA LAC (YMCA Latin America and the Caribbean) contribute to creating opportunities for young people such as education and safe spaces where they can develop socioemotional skills and improve their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, while they build their leadership inside a peaceful community where they can empathize and sensitize with other young people regardless of their differences.
Event powered by the Regional Node
We are an inspiring human team that mobilizes, articulates, and connects the 25 Latin American and Caribbean YMCAs, to increase our relevance, social impact, and sustainability.
